Customs debt. Real consequences.
Behind every decision there are businesses, jobs and the future of Polish logistics. From individual administrative proceedings to a real picture of the consequences for the whole country.
Not only the debtors
The decisions affect workers, subcontractors, carriers, terminals, rail operators, local governments and public revenue.
Facts kept apart from positions
We consistently distinguish established facts, the positions of businesses, legally disputed issues and forecasts.
Data without disclosing companies
Businesses provide data anonymously. We publish only verified aggregated summaries.
How the problem arises: in brief
-
1
Rail transport from Asia
Containers travel in sealed wagons under a rail consignment note. The contents are declared by the consignor.
-
2
Formalities at the EU border
At the terminal in Poland, declarations based on the transport documents are lodged, and a customs agency opens a transit procedure to a customs office in another EU Member State.
-
3
Irregularities elsewhere
Years later it turns out that some of the goods were declared under an incorrect description, and the transit was discharged abroad without the goods being inspected.
-
4
Liability of the links in the chain
The authorities are addressing demands for payment of customs duty, anti-dumping duty and VAT, together with interest for several years, also to Polish logistics companies as jointly and severally liable debtors.
The scale in figures
- In the cases known to the initiators of the portal alone, several hundred proceedings concerning shipments from 2021 are under way, initiated since December 2025.
- The amounts determined in the decisions issued so far run into tens of millions of zlotys, excluding interest calculated from 2021.
- The typical amount demanded per container is several hundred thousand zlotys, many times more than the fee for handling the shipment.
